“Technique, attack, accuracy, articulation, rhythmic rigour
and yet flexibility of phrasing are those of a violinist
promised to a major career.”

LAUNCH DATE: June 5, 2007 Montreal, May 27,
2007 – ANALEKTA is proud to present this first recording by
young Korean violinist Jinjoo Cho, winner of the First
Grand Prize at the Montreal International Musical Competition in
2006 and Gold Medalist at the Stulberg International String
Competition in 2005. With pianist Louise-Andrée Baril, she
presents a recital featuring repertoire from three centuries
that includes Brahms’ dramatic Third Sonata, Ravel’s flamboyant
Tzigane and a work by Canadian composer Scott Good.
A mature work, Brahms’ Third Sonata stands out by its scope of
symphonic proportions, a breadth that stems from its having four
movements. It demonstrates eloquently the level of craftsmanship
Brahms achieved in the delicate art of balancing violin and
piano. A poetic and exotic jewel of a piece,
Ravel’s Tzigane remains one of the most difficult works of the
repertoire. In two contrasting sections, the piece ends in a
frenetic culmination of violinistic fireworks, punctuated by the
piano’s animated accompaniment. Canadian
composer Scott Good has won a number of awards. In 2006, he was
commissioned to write the compulsory Canadian work for the
Montreal International Music Competition, And Dreams Rush Forth
to Greet the Distance, destined to highlight the virtuosity of
the performer and a work that would contain a number of concepts
of contemporary composition and of modern approaches to violin
technique, while remaining engaging as much for the performer as
for the audience.
A native of Seoul, Jinjoo Cho has
appeared as soloist with many of the Cleveland music ensembles
such as the Cleveland Orchestra, CityMusic Cleveland, the
Cleveland Youth Orchestra and the Cleveland Institute of Music
Symphony Orchestra, as well as the Kalamazoo Symphony, the Aspen
Concert Orchestra and the Orchestre symphonique de Montréal.
Jinjoo’s talent has already received critical recognition on
numerous occasions. “She is a violinist of remarkable poise and
technical accomplishment, with no apparent fear of any challenge
a composer may set,” commented Donald Rosenberg, critic for The
Plain Dealer. For more information on the Montreal International
