Born in New Westminster, British
Columbia, mezzo-soprano Judith Forst is one of Canada’s
most illustrious opera singers. She began her studies
with French Tickner at the University of British
Columbia, later pursuing her training in New York with
Hans Joachim Heinz. Judith Forst has sung with most of
North America’s foremost opera companies, including
delivering over 200 performances in 20 seasons at the
celebrated New York Metropolitan Opera (MET). She has
also appeared on many of the leading stages of Europe
with some of the world’s most renowned conductors. Her
most recent successes have included highly-acclaimed
performances as Kabanicha in Janácek’s Kata Kabanova at
the MET and La Scala in Milan, as well as in the role of
Kostelnicka in Janácek’s Jenufa with the Prague National
and Dallas operas. During the course of her career,
Judith Forst has received numerous awards and
distinctions, among them an Honorary Doctorate of
Letters from the University of British Columbia, an
Honorary Doctorate of Music from the University of
Victoria, and Opera Canada’s prestigious Ruby Award.
Judith Forst is an Officer of the Order of Canada and a
recipient of the Order of British Columbia. |
