Equally successful in the fields of
opera, recital, and recording, baritone Thomas Allen has
sung in all major opera houses, and is internationally
recognized as one of the greatest vocal artists today.
He has recently performed at the operas of Los Angeles,
Dallas, and Chicago, at the Royal Opera House, Covent
Garden, and at the Metropolitan Opera, as well as at the
prestigious festivals of Glyndebourne, Spoleto, and
Salzburg.
Upcoming engagements include Don Alfonso in Mozart’s
Così fan tutte at the Royal Opera House, in Munich,
and in Hong Kong; his debut at the Bolshoi Theatre in
Moscow as Faninal in Strauss’ Der Rosenkavalier;
and directing engagements with the Scottish Opera and
the Lyric Opera of Chicago.
On the concert platform, he appears in recital in the
United Kingdom, throughout Europe, in Australia, and in
America, and has appeared with the world’s great
orchestras and conductors. A major part of his
repertoire has been extensively recorded with such
distinguished names as Solti, Levine, Marriner, Haitink,
Hochet, Sawallisch and Muti.
Named a Commander of the British Empire in 1989, and
made a Knight Bachelor in 1999, Thomas Allen was
appointed Chancellor of Durham University in October
2011.
