Equally successful in the fields of opera, recital, and recording, baritone Thomas Allen has sung in all major opera houses, and is internationally recognized as one of the greatest vocal artists today.

He has recently performed at the operas of Los Angeles, Dallas, and Chicago, at the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden, and at the Metropolitan Opera, as well as at the prestigious festivals of Glyndebourne, Spoleto, and Salzburg.

Upcoming engagements include Don Alfonso in Mozart’s Così fan tutte at the Royal Opera House, in Munich, and in Hong Kong; his debut at the Bolshoi Theatre in Moscow as Faninal in Strauss’ Der Rosenkavalier; and directing engagements with the Scottish Opera and the Lyric Opera of Chicago.

On the concert platform, he appears in recital in the United Kingdom, throughout Europe, in Australia, and in America, and has appeared with the world’s great orchestras and conductors. A major part of his repertoire has been extensively recorded with such distinguished names as Solti, Levine, Marriner, Haitink, Hochet, Sawallisch and Muti.

Named a Commander of the British Empire in 1989, and made a Knight Bachelor in 1999, Thomas Allen was appointed Chancellor of Durham University in October 2011.
