From May 24 to June 4, 2010 Over one
hundred candidates, among the finest young violinists in the
world, registered for the preliminary round. 24 of them—9 women
and 15 men—are moving on to the following rounds, which will
take place from May 25 to June 4. Countries with the greatest
number of participants are the United States (5 candidates) and
South Korea (4). Next comes Germany (3); Japan (3), China (2),
Canada (2) and Russia (2); and France, Poland, and the Czech
Republic (1). The identity of the candidates who are
invited to take part in the Quarter Final round will be revealed
on May 13, at the Competition’s inaugural press conference.
