Born to a family of
musicians, Wen-Lei Gu began studying violin and piano at
a very early age, winning the Canton National Piano
Competition for Children at the age of six.
At the age of 12, she was awarded first place at the
China National Violin Competition and one year later
performed the Saint-Saëns Concerto for Violin in England
under the baton of Yehudi Menuhin. She has won the
Yehudi Menuhin International Competition for Young
Violinists, the California International Young Artists
Competition, the Bergen Philharmonic Violin and Piano
Competition, the Mannes Concerto Competition, the
Kingsville International Competition for Young
Performers and, most recently, the Heida Hermann
International String Competition. Wen-Lei Gu is
currently completiing her doctoral studies at Indiana
University with Miriam Fried.
