Howard Zhang began his
violin studies at the age of three with his violinist
father, and subsequently pursued his musical training
with Itzhak Perlman and Dorothy DeLay. He has also
worked with Abram Shtern and Hyo Kang. At the age of
nine, he performed Bruch’s Concerto in G minor with the
Redlands Symphony in California. Through the Stradivari
Society of Chicago and with the help of violinist
Midori, he was honoured
with the loan of a three-quarter size Gagliano violin
made in 1760. He won first prize at the Irving M. Klein
International String Competition in 2001 and the
following year received the Governor of New Jersey’s
Award of Excellence for his outstanding achievements in
the arts. He recorded a CD under the Naxos label that
drew the critical acclaim of many prominent specialty
magazines. Howard Zhang has given numerous solo recitals
around the world and has performed with orchestras in
Europe, the Americas and Asia.
