As a manager with\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">Ibbs<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">\u00a0&amp;\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">Tillett<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">, partner with\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">Op\u00e9ra<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">\u00a0et Concert, and consultant to companies like EMI, the\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">Ludwigsburger<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">Schlossfestspiele<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">, and the Paris Opera,\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">Engstroem<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">\u00a0worked with many major international artists including Karl\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">B\u00f6hm<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">, Birgit Nilsson,\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">Jessye<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">\u00a0Norman, Lucia Popp, Renato\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">Bruson<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">, Leonard Bernstein, Barbara Hendricks, Neil\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">Shicoff<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">, Han-Na Chang, Giuseppe\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">Sinopoli<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">, and for many years enjoyed a close collaboration with Herbert von Karajan.\u00a0<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><span data-contrast=\"none\">In 1991, he began what became the\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">Verbier<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">\u00a0Festival &amp; Academy and he still serves as Artistic and Executive Director, presiding over\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">its<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">\u00a0evolution into one of the most innovative performing arts communities in Europe. Between 1999 and 2003 Martin was Vice President of Artists &amp; Repertoire of Deutsche\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">Grammophon<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">. He has been a jury member of numerous competitions including the Clara\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">Haskil<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">\u00a0Competition, the Rubinstein Competition, and the Tchaikovsky Competition. In 2011 The Nobel Foundation in\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">Lindau<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">\u00a0induced Martin\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">Engstroem<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">\u00a0and Bill Gates to their Honorary Senate thereby recognizing their sustained personal commitment to supporting and encouraging young talents. In 2015, he received the Dmitri Shostakovich Prize, one of the most prestigious prizes in the field of Russian art.\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">Engstroem<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">\u00a0is the first laureate of the Dmitri Shostakovich Prize who is not a musician.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.concoursmontreal.ca\/en\/jury\/till-fellner\/\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright wp-image-17690 size-full\" src=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/02\/next-button.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"80\" height=\"80\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>\u00a0 &nbsp; Martin\u00a0Engstroem\u00a0began his career organising concerts by creating his own series of Sunday afternoon concerts for young Swedish musicians at the National Museum in Stockholm.
