Martin\u00a0<\/span>Engstroem<\/span>\u00a0began his career organising concerts by creating his own series of Sunday afternoon concerts for young Swedish musicians at the National Museum in Stockholm. As a manager with\u00a0<\/span>Ibbs<\/span>\u00a0&\u00a0<\/span>Tillett<\/span>, partner with\u00a0<\/span>Op\u00e9ra<\/span>\u00a0et Concert, and consultant to companies like EMI, the\u00a0<\/span>Ludwigsburger<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>Schlossfestspiele<\/span>, and the Paris Opera,\u00a0<\/span>Engstroem<\/span>\u00a0worked with many major international artists including Karl\u00a0<\/span>B\u00f6hm<\/span>, Birgit Nilsson,\u00a0<\/span>Jessye<\/span>\u00a0Norman, Lucia Popp, Renato\u00a0<\/span>Bruson<\/span>, Leonard Bernstein, Barbara Hendricks, Neil\u00a0<\/span>Shicoff<\/span>, Han-Na Chang, Giuseppe\u00a0<\/span>Sinopoli<\/span>, and for many years enjoyed a close collaboration with Herbert von Karajan.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

In 1991, he began what became the\u00a0<\/span>Verbier<\/span>\u00a0Festival & Academy and he still serves as Artistic and Executive Director, presiding over\u00a0<\/span>its<\/span>\u00a0evolution into one of the most innovative performing arts communities in Europe. Between 1999 and 2003 Martin was Vice President of Artists & Repertoire of Deutsche\u00a0<\/span>Grammophon<\/span>. He has been a jury member of numerous competitions including the Clara\u00a0<\/span>Haskil<\/span>\u00a0Competition, the Rubinstein Competition, and the Tchaikovsky Competition. In 2011 The Nobel Foundation in\u00a0<\/span>Lindau<\/span>\u00a0induced Martin\u00a0<\/span>Engstroem<\/span>\u00a0and Bill Gates to their Honorary Senate thereby recognizing their sustained personal commitment to supporting and encouraging young talents. In 2015, he received the Dmitri Shostakovich Prize, one of the most prestigious prizes in the field of Russian art.\u00a0<\/span>Engstroem<\/span>\u00a0is the first laureate of the Dmitri Shostakovich Prize who is not a musician.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
