Internationally acclaimed for her interpretations of Wagner, Strauss, Verdi and Puccini, Canadian soprano Adrianne Pieczonka has performed for over three decades on the world\u2019s leading opera stages including The Metropolitan Opera, Royal Opera House Covent Garden, La Scala Milan, Bavarian State Opera and l\u2019Op\u00e9ra Bastille. Her signature roles include Tosca, Sieglinde (Die Walk\u00fcre<\/em>), Senta (Der Fliegender Holl\u00e4nder<\/em>), Chrysothemis (Elektra<\/em>), Leonore (Fidelio<\/em>), Ariadne, Marschallin (Der Rosenkavalier<\/em>), Elisabetta (Don Carlo<\/em>) and Amelia (Ballo in Maschera<\/em>).<\/p>\n

Raised in Burlington, Ontario, she studied at the University of Western Ontario and at the University of Toronto. She made her professional operatic debut in 1988 with the Canadian Opera Company, then moved to Europe. After winning First Prize at the \u2018s-Hertogenbosch Voice Competition in 1988, Adrianne Pieczonka became a member of the Vienna Volksoper in 1989.<\/p>\n

In 1991 she became a member of the Vienna State Opera, where she has performed regularly as a guest artist for over thirty years.<\/p>\n

Adrianne Pieczonka has performed at the prestigious summer opera festivals in Bayreuth, Salzburg, Glyndebourne and Aix-en-Provence and has sung with the world\u2019s finest conductors, including Sir Georg Solti, James Levine, Christian Thielmann, Claudio Abbado, Riccardo Muti and many others.<\/p>\n

She recently performed Schubert\u2019s Winterreise<\/em> with pianist Wolfram Rieger in Madrid and Vienna, and performs often in concert and recital in Toronto. A regular guest artist with the Canadian Opera Company, she has performed in over ten different productions with the COC.<\/p>\n

In 2007, the Austrian Government recognized her outstanding achievement in opera and named her Kammers\u00e4ngerin<\/em>. In 2008, she was named Officer of the Order of Canada, and became a Fellow of the Royal Society of Canada in 2013. Her CD of Puccini Arias won a Juno Award in 2010.<\/p>\n

In 2019 Adrianne Pieczonka was appointed Chair in Voice at the Glenn Gould School, Royal Conservatory of Music in Toronto.<\/p>\n
