Pianists\u2019 date of birth must fall no earlier than April 25, 1996, and no later than April 24, 2009.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"font-size: 14px;\">Finalists from previous piano editions are not eligible to compete in Concours 2027.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"font-size: 14px;\">All selected competitors are required to be free of all professional engagements and available to be present in Montr\u00e9al between April 23 and May 5, 2027, inclusive.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">\u00a0<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"color: #f60000; font-size: 14px;\"><b>IMPORTANT DATES<\/b><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"font-size: 14px;\">2026<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: 14px;\">September 3: Applications open<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: 14px;\">October 31: Applications close at 23:59 Montr\u00e9al time (EDT)<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: 14px;\">December 18: All applicants are informed of their status<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: 14px;\">December 22: Deadline for invited competitors to confirm their participation<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"font-size: 14px;\">2027<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: 14px;\">January 18: Confirmation of final programs for all rounds<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: 14px;\">February 4: Announcement of the Concours 2027 competitors<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: 14px;\">April 22: Arrival of all competitors in Montr\u00e9al<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: 14px;\">April 23: Welcome event and Concours media launch<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: 14px;\">April 24-26: First Round<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: 14px;\">April 28-29: Semifinal<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: 14px;\">April 30: Chamber Music<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: 14px;\">May 4: Final with orchestra \u2013 First evening<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: 14px;\">May 5: Final with orchestra \u2013 Second evening and Closing Award Ceremony<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"font-size: 14px;\" data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"color: #f60000; font-size: 14px;\"><b>APPLICATION PROCESS<\/b><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"font-size: 14px;\">Applications must be submitted online via the site Muvac.com by 23:59 Montr\u00e9al time (EDT) on October 31, 2026.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"font-size: 14px;\">A complete application comprises the following:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul style=\"text-align: left;\">\n<li><span style=\"font-size: 14px;\">A completed online application form<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: 14px;\">A non-refundable application fee of $200 Canadian Dollars<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: 14px;\">Two high-resolution colour photos, including one headshot, suitable for promotional use<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: 14px;\">Contact information (name, title, email address, and phone number) for two musical references willing to provide <em>upon request by the Concours only<\/em> a recommendation in support of the applicant<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: 14px;\">A list of proposed repertoire for all rounds of the competition (except the required Canadian work for the Semifinal)<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: 14px;\">Four audition videos (one video per work):<br \/><\/span><span style=\"font-size: 14px;\">1) A prelude and fugue by J.S. Bach<br \/><\/span><span style=\"font-size: 14px;\">2) A complete sonata by Haydn, Mozart, Beethoven, or Schubert<br \/><\/span><span style=\"font-size: 14px;\">3) A virtuoso \u00e9tude<br \/><\/span><span style=\"font-size: 14px;\">4) A work in a contrasting musical style<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"color: #f60000; font-size: 14px;\"><b>SELECTION PROCESS<\/b><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"font-size: 14px;\">A preliminary jury is appointed by the Concours management to review the audition videos and evaluate the pianists\u2019 performances.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"font-size: 14px;\">The names of the jury members are confidential during the preselection stage and will be revealed in February of 2027 following the announcement of the competitors of the Concours 2027.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"font-size: 14px;\">Each candidate\u2019s application will be reviewed by a minimum of three and a maximum of six members of the preliminary jury.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"font-size: 14px;\">The members of the preliminary jury do not have access to information such as the applicant\u2019s name, age, nationality, biography, or professors.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"font-size: 14px;\">The pianists who receive the highest rankings will advance to a second preselection round. Following this round, the competitors are selected.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"font-size: 14px;\">From this preselection process, 24 pianists will be invited to compete in Montr\u00e9al. One laureate of the<\/span> 2026 OSM competition will be invited as a 25<sup>th<\/sup> competitor for the Piano 2027 edition.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"color: #f60000; font-size: 14px;\"><b>INTERNATIONAL JURY<\/b><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"font-size: 14px;\">The International Jury consists of a minimum of seven internationally recognized music professionals.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"font-size: 14px;\">All jury decisions are final and binding.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"font-size: 14px;\"><strong>Jury President<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"font-size: 14px;\">A Jury President is appointed by the Concours management. The Jury President\u2019s vote in each stage of the competition remains sealed and is only counted when a tie-break is required.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"font-size: 14px;\">The Jury President for the Concours 2027 will be Canadian pianist Angela Cheng.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"font-size: 14px;\">The members of the jury will be announced in September 2026.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">\u00a0<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"font-size: 14px;\"><strong>Voting Procedure<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"font-size: 14px;\">The\u00a0Concours\u00a0employs an approval voting system. At the end of each round, jury members indicate which competitors they would like to advance to the next round.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"font-size: 14px;\">Special prizes and the three Concours laureates are determined by majority vote.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"font-size: 14px;\">The International Jury is required to award first, second, and third prizes to three distinct laureates. Prizes may not be shared <em>ex aequo<\/em> between competitors.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">\u00a0<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"font-size: 14px;\"><strong>Conflicts of Interest<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"font-size: 14px;\">The Jury President and all Jury members are required to disclose any current or pre-existing conflict of interest with competitors and to sign a document declaring a conflict-of-interest.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"font-size: 14px;\">A conflict of interest arises when a juror has a past or present spousal, familial, teaching, or professional relationship with a competitor. Masterclasses do not constitute a teaching relationship for this purpose. When doubt exists about whether a conflict of interest is present, the Artistic Director shall make the final determination.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"font-size: 14px;\"><strong><em>Note:<\/em><\/strong><em> The Jury Handbook <\/em>of rules and voting procedures will be available for consultation by April 1, 2027.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"color: #f60000; font-size: 14px;\"><b>OFFICIAL ORCHESTRA<\/b><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"font-size: 14px;\">The Orchestre symphonique de Montr\u00e9al (OSM) is the official orchestra of the Concours musical international de Montr\u00e9al. The OSM accompanies the six finalists for the two evenings of the Final, on May 4 and 5, 2027, at Maison symphonique de Montr\u00e9al.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"color: #f60000; font-size: 14px;\"><b>TRANSPORTATION AND ACCOMMODATION OFFERED BY THE CMIM<\/b><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"font-size: 14px;\">The Concours provides an economy-class round-trip flight or the equivalent to Montr\u00e9al as well as free accommodation with a host family in the Montreal area for all Concours 2027 competitors.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"font-size: 14px;\">(See the detailed <a href=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/07\/CONCOURS-2027_RULES_CONDITIONS_OF_PARTICIPATION_July-13-3.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Rules document<\/a> for conditions.)<\/span><\/p>\n<h2>\u00a0<\/h2>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"color: #f60000; font-size: 14px;\"><b>COMPETITION ROUNDS<\/b><\/span><\/h2>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"font-size: 14px;\">The International Jury will consider the technical difficulty and artistic merit of the competitor\u2019s programs for each round.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"font-size: 14px;\">Repertoire selected for the competition may include works recorded for the audition videos. No other duplication of repertoire is permitted during the competition rounds.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">\u00a0<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"font-size: 14px; color: #ff0000;\"><strong>First Round \u2013 April 24, 25 and 26<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"font-size: 14px;\">The twenty-five competitors must each present a program of 25 to 28 minutes of music for solo piano.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"font-size: 14px;\">The repertoire for the First Round must comprise a minimum of three works representing at least three musical periods. The inclusion of a single movement of a work is permitted.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"font-size: 14px;\">All works in the First Round must be performed from memory.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"font-size: 14px;\">Pianists are not permitted to exit the stage during the First Round.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"font-size: 14px;\">Twelve pianists will be selected by the International Jury to advance to the Semifinal.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">\u00a0<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"font-size: 14px; color: #ff0000;\"><strong>Semifinal \u2013 April 28 and 29<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"font-size: 14px;\">The twelve semifinalists must each perform a program of 50 to 55 minutes of music for solo piano.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"font-size: 14px;\">The repertoire for the Semifinal round must comprise a minimum of three works, including the following elements:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul style=\"text-align: left;\">\n<li><span style=\"font-size: 14px;\">A complete sonata by Haydn, Mozart, Beethoven, or Schubert<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: 14px;\">A work by a contemporary Canadian composer. (A list of admissible Canadian works will be provided by the Concours to the selected competitors by the end of December 2026.)<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: 14px;\">Another work of the competitor\u2019s choice<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"font-size: 14px;\">Works in the Semifinal must be performed from memory, with the exception of the required Canadian work.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"font-size: 14px;\">Pianists may choose to exit the stage one time only during the Semifinal.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"font-size: 14px;\">Six pianists will be selected by the International Jury to advance to the Chamber Music round and Final with orchestra.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">\u00a0<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"font-size: 14px; color: #ff0000;\"><strong>Chamber Music \u2013 April 30<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"font-size: 14px;\">The six finalists must perform a piano concerto by W.A. Mozart arranged for piano and string quartet, from the following four options:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul style=\"text-align: left;\">\n<li><span style=\"font-size: 14px;\">Piano Concerto No. 11 in E-flat major, K. 413<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: 14px;\">Piano Concerto No. 12 in A major, K. 414<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: 14px;\">Piano Concerto No. 13 in C major, K. 415<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: 14px;\">Piano Concerto No. 14 in E-flat major, K. 449<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"font-size: 14px;\">The concerto is to be performed by memory.
